Danida’s Board approved the private sector development programme on 5 November 2008. On 1 December 2008, a Government to Government agreement was signed at the Council for the Development of Cambodia. The overall objective of the private sector programme is to strengthen Cambodia's ability to benefit from globalisation, which in turn will contribute to achieving the Cambodian government's poverty reduction strategy, where the goal of increased economic growth and job creation through private sector development is an essential element.
The Danish support will be channelled through a trust fund administered by the World Bank and will allow the Cambodian government to achieve the following results: 1. Faster implementation of the Action Plan to strengthen the transparency of commercial transactions and the private sector, 2. Accelerating the implementation of government's commitments on international quality requirements for exports and removal of technical barriers to trade, 3. Establishing an effective system for measuring the impact of reform and the dissemination of public information on progress in the reform process, and 4. Institutional building and strengthening of human resources in the ministries involved. Other contributing donors to the trust fund are the EC Delegation in Cambodia and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
